The bicyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. Rockland Paramedics treated him at the scene along with Ramapo Valley Ambulence Corps.
Officers arriving at the scene discovered a male face down on the non-road side of the guard rail. He was in serious medical distress and showed injuries to his face and body and was unable to speak to officers due to the severity of his injuries, police said.
A bicycle, presumably his, was on the side of the roadway with damage to the front end. The damage to the vehicle and the injuries to the male are consistent with both having some type of contact with a vehicle in motion. There was no other vehicles in the area and no one came forward.
At this time the case is being investigated as a leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.
Ramapo Police Accident investigators and detectives are investigating this case. The vehicle may have sustained damage to the front end and/or the passenger side. At this time it, is believed the vehicle was traveling towards Suffern at the time of the crash.
The name of the deceased is not being release at this time due to notification of the next of kin. Anyone with any information is urged to contact RPD.
